Who?
Luminate is Scotland’s creative ageing organisation. We aim to enable older people’s creativity to flourish whatever their circumstances, experience, interests and ambitions. We work to achieve this through collaborations with older people and their wider communities, with artists and cultural organisations, and with care and community organisations.

What?
Our programme is in 4 strands:
Innovation: we collaborate with people and organisations to explore new ways of working that help more older people participate in the arts and be creative.
Developing creative practice: we provide professional development opportunities for those who work creatively with older people, and for older artists themselves.
Celebrating creativity as we age: we help ensure that the rich and diverse creativity of older people is visible, and that the cultural life of Scotland is shaped by their voices.
Communication and advocacy: we bring people together to share their knowledge and experience of creative ageing, and we advocate for the arts and creativity to be valued in our lives as we age.
Our projects take place across Scotland, in arts venues and care and community settings, as well as online. We also run the Dementia Inclusive Singing Network to help people living with dementia to sing in groups and develop the skills of choir leaders to support them.
Why Amateo?
We want to learn from the experience and knowledge of our colleagues across Europe, and to share the learning from our work in Scotland.
Importance of international cooperation?
We have much to learn from each other. Everyone is working in different contexts, but we benefit from sharing our experience. Working across borders is inspiring, giving us a fresh way to look at things and enabling us to draw on a wealth of expertise from colleagues.
Future hopes?
We hope the network will become stronger and that increasing numbers of people across Europe will benefit from the joy of cultural participation.
