AMATEO MEMBER: DANSK AMATØR TEATER & SCENEKUNST / DANISH AMATEUR THEATRE & PERFORMING ARTS (DATS)
Member country: Denmark
Contact person: Peter Rafn Dahm
My name is Peter Rafn Dahm and I work as artistic and developmental consultant for DATS.
Who: Danish Amateur Theatre and Stage Arts/Performing Arts – is, as indicated by our
name, an umbrella for all kinds of non-professional drama, theatre and performance activities in Denmark. And we are the only organisation that serve and represent these activities.
What: DATS work includes:
- organising a wide range of festivals and artistic meeting-places for children & youth, students, grown-up and seniors – and we participate in several international festival networks
- arranging courses, workshops and education including disciplines of all performing arts
- offering artistic, organisational, insurance and legal assistance to our members
- working politically to promote the conditions for amateur theatre and amateur culture
Why Amateo: DATS have joined the Amateo network in order to be part of an European cultural network and to participate in the international dialog concerning the visibility and development of amateur culture.
In times of major international challenges (climate, migration, increasing inequality, radical populism, etc.) it´s an important commitment for art and culture to represent a variety of “human voices” – representing compassion, solidarity and alternative ways of thinking, acting and cooperation.
Future hopes: Hopefully Amateo and a growing cultural participation in Europe will raise these voices – now – and in the future.
